A number of resurfacing schemes which will see carriageways improved across Sutton Coldfield are set to take place over the coming months.

Amey, working in partnership with Birmingham City Council, is currently delivering a five year programme of improvements to the city’s roads. The infrastructure will then be maintained at this improved standard until 2035.

Upcoming schemes in Sutton include Chester Road, Monmouth Drive, Hollyfield Road, Webster Way, Lichfield Road, Blackberry Lane, Carhampton Road, Whitehouse Crescent, Edge Hill Road, Butlers Lane, Birmingham Road, Trinity Road, Boldmere Road and Walmley Ash Road.

Carriageway resurfacing schemes will take between one and four weeks depending on the location, with the majority of works being carried out at night to minimise disruption to traffic.

The works have been scheduled as part of an annual plan which outlines the improvements and repairs to be prioritised by need including street lighting upgrades, carriageway resurfacing and footway works.

The coordinated plan, which also aims to programme works efficiently and takes into account other works on the road network, is reviewed each year as circumstances change, for example, if a certain road deteriorates quicker than expected.

Residents and businesses will be informed of any works that may affect them and signed diversions will be in place for motorists.

Cllr Tahir Ali, Cabinet Member for Development, Jobs and Skills at Birmingham City Council, who is responsible for Highways, said:

“These are vital upgrades to the city’s roads that will benefit the area, making roads safer and ensuring they are fit for the future.

We would like to thank the people of Sutton for their patience and understanding while these improvements are made. I am sure they will see the benefit of this important work.”
Eddie Fellows, Network Manager for Amey, said:

“These works have been co-ordinated to ensure we can do the work as quickly and efficiently as possible.

We will do everything we can to inform residents and businesses affected in advance and minimise disruption while these improvement works are carried out.”

The carriageway works, as well as the bridge strengthening scheme on Lower Queen Street, have been programmed so roads can be fully reopened in time for the summer closures of the A38 tunnels in Birmingham City Centre.
